How Iconic Opticians came about…
Talking to patients in the past made us realise that a majority prefer to give their business to local independent opticians as they appreciate the personal care that comes with the service - but are drawn to attractive offers made by chain opticians. The idea of Iconic Opticians came from a professional wish to offer a personal and individualised service, yet with very competitive prices.
Iconic Opticians came to life in July 2015, in a refurbished shop in Cornwall Street. We hoped to contribute to the ongoing regeneration of the West End area. Plymouth City Centre Company confirmed that we were the first independent opticians to open in the city centre since 1984 and there hasn’t been any since.
We have seen over 4000 patients since we opened our doors over five years ago. Our priority always has been great customer service and our 5 star reviews on google and Facebook are our pride. We have also been voted Best Opticians 4 years in a row by threebestrated.co.uk.
Our patients are very diverse, aged 4 to 98, with simple and straightforward vision needs to complex prescriptions that need lenses made to measure from overseas.
Thanks to the loyalty and support of our patients, we were able to take a first step to expand in February 2020, when we opened our second branch on Plymstock Broadway. We once again opted for a unit that had been empty since April 2019, and looked forward to contributing to the redevelopment of the shopping centre.
In July 2021 we decided to expand further and took on an empty shop in Tavistock. The premises in Brook Street, which used to be Scruples before they moved across the street, had been vacant for five years and the property had to be completely refurbished before we could open our doors in October 2021.
